Abstract
This study aims to find out the size of the effect by synthesizing the study on the effect of the food-mediated expressive arts therapy program conducted in Korea and to identify the factors affecting the effect size. Food-mediated expressive arts therapy utilizes the medium of food, a familiar material that is closely related to our lives. Food media that stimulates the five senses is a psychotherapeutic tool that stimulates the limbic system of the brain and promotes rapid change, and its effectiveness has been verified in various studies. However, although individual studies of different characteristics have confirmed their effectiveness, there has never been an integrated discussion on program operation and effective factors. Therefore, we intend to elucidate the comprehensive effects and characteristics using meta-analysis. For the literature to be studied, 33 final studies were selected according to the PRISMA 4-step procedure, and 82 effect sizes were calculated. Also, by using CMA 3.0, the average effect size and variables affecting the effect size were investigated. The following are the results of the study. First, the overall mean effect size was 1.508, indicating a large effect size.
Second, the effect size according to the study subject and intervention characteristics did not show a significant difference in the study subject, total number of sessions, and session time, but showed a significant difference in group size and number of main sessions. Third, there was no statistically significant difference in the effect size according to the dependent variable. This study is meaningful in that it provides the basis and direction for future program development and research by comprehensively analyzing the results of individual research on food-mediated expressive arts therapy programs that started in Korea.
